"Push" Walk July 3, 2020

Image
Hey peeps. What's up!!! Yesterday I decided to get myself ready for a "Push" day. What's a "push" day? Very simply, a "push" day is a walking day that I use to push myself to get a long walk in. I've been meaning to take a walk around Randall's Island, so yesterday was a good day as any. How do I get to Randall's Island from the Bronx? There are a couple of ways that I could get there. Here was my itinerary: - walk to the Soundview Ferry - take the ferry to East 90th Street - walk from the East 90th Street along the East River Walkway - take the footbridge over to Randall's Island And off I went. Here are the breakdowns for the walk.  Now I apologize for the three images. My GPS went a little wonky and had me walking on water to and from Astoria. I'm not that skilled 🤣🤣🤣. Luckily I was able to edit the walk through Strava but it left me with three different walks. As you can see I started at the East 90th Ferry, over the foot...

Steps for Week of June 22 - June 28, 2020

Image
Hey peeps what's up. Just wanted to post my steps for the week of June 22-June 28 as tracked by my trusty Fitbit Blaze. Take a look: As I highlighted in my post  Steps for Week of June 15 - June 21, 2020  I had a total of 61,827 steps. So I went down somewhat. To be honest, it was super hot out there last week and lacked the motivation to push through the heat. We'll see what adventures in stepping this current week brings.  I hope everyone is safe and healthy out there these days. I hope you are all taking care of yourselves. Following all the safety protocols that you can not only for yourselves but more importantly for those around you. COVID-19 is the real deal. It isn't fake. It isn't a hoax. Please be careful. Ok. enough of the soapbox. Talk to you all real soon. Until Then Keep Stepping, #SiscoVanilla #SiscoVanillaIsStepping #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

Steps for Week of June 15 - June 21, 2020

Image
Hello everyone. I know, long time no see here on this blog page. I can give the same old schtick: I've been busy, or I've been working on other things...yada yada yada. Nope, I've just been here not doing anything with this page. Nada, zilch, nothing. But I'm going to try and remedy that with the following post. So here were my steps from the past week of June 15 - June 21. I've been trying to get out a bit more while under COVID-19 Staying at Home. This week was harder to get steps for than the week prior.  The week prior (June 8 - June 14) saw four days of more than 12.5K steps including the massive 22K+ steps accomplishment on Wednesday June 10.  I just didn't have it in me to push ahead like I did the week before. And that's ok. I'm not putting up the steps that I used to when I worked at Barnes and Noble or even at the bar pre-COVID-19. This is a "new normal" that we are living with. So I need to adjust and evolve along with it.  Any sugge...

My Weekly Steps Via Fitbit June 10 - June 16

Image
This week was an positive week for stepping though I was short about 9,000 steps from the week before. As you can see I hit my daily step goal of 12,500 six times last week with Sunday coming pretty close. My best day was last Wednesday with 18,390 steps. Consistency is key folks. Last week was a pretty consistent week. Here's the breakdown of the steps: June 10: 17,095 steps June 11: 15,893 steps June 12: 18,390 steps June 13: 13,653 steps June 14: 17,310 steps June 15: 14,394 steps June 16: 10,410 steps As I mentioned last week, I ordered a Peloton bike. The bike has come in and I've already given it a few rides. I'll post more about it in a separate post. But I have to say that I'm pretty excited to have it in the house. I'll keep all you gals and guys posted. Until Then Keep Stepping, SiscoVanilla #SiscoVanilla #SiscoVanillaIsStepping #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

My Weekly Steps Via Fitbit June 3 - June 9

Image
Last week was an amazing week for stepping. As you can see I hit my daily step goal of 12,500 six times last week with Sunday being my rest day. My best day was last Monday with 21,436 steps. That was highlighted by my walks throughout Midtown Manhattan and the East Village. Here's the breakdown of the steps: June 3: 21,436 steps June 4: 13,628 steps  June 5: 20,164 steps June 6: 19,217 steps June 7: 20,894 steps  June 8: 15,102 steps June 9: 5,820 steps I'm slowly getting back into the rhythm of putting together 20,000 step days. I had three this week where back a year ago when I was working primarily days I would get between four and six of the same kind of days. Going back to working nights has been an adjustment in many ways. Some good and some bad. We just have to take it day by day and step by step. I have ten days to go before my new Peloton bike gets delivered. I'm really looking forward to kick it up a couple of notches and get back to the under 250 l...

Ain't No Half Stepping June 8, 2019

The last six days have proved to be an awesome exhibition of stepping that I haven't had in a while. Look forward to continuing the positive walking and exploration. And thanks to everyone who has joined me on this ride in terms of positive comments, recommendations and good vibes. Much love to you all. Walking NYC June 4, 2019

Image
There was some nice weather here in NYC on Monday June 3rd and I decided to take advantage and get some steps in. I took a longer walk to the ferry in the Bronx that was two miles long. Since I was meeting friends in Alphabet City, I took the ferry to 34th Street on the East Side and walked with a couple of pitstops at Union Square. In total that walk took 4.40 miles.  As you can see in the above picture, for the day I had a total of 21,284 steps. Definitely a very good walking day. Let's see what can I come up with for a walk during this upcoming week.  Until Then Keep Stepping, #SiscoVanilla #SiscoVanillaIsStepping #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

Walking Advice from Edward Payson Weston May 29, 2019

Image
This is really amazing advice. I do have to say that I find myself feeling refreshed after a long walk. As I like to say "Walking is better than therapy." Many a creative person such as Dickens, Thoreau and Twain to name a few engaged in walking to get the creative juices flowing. In the following quotes from Professional Pedestrian Edward Payson Weston, he recommended doing 10 miles a day which for me translates to roughly 20,000 steps (2K steps per mile.) 10 miles a day might not work with everyone's schedules, but we all should make an effort to got out and get a couple of miles in at a time at the very least. How can we do that? - Sleep less and get an early start - Walking to and from the train rather than taking a bus - Getting off a few stops earlier than your destination and walking - Walking to a train stop further away on the line you are riding - Take a walking lunch - Take a walk after dinner to get your body active while digesting - Plan adventur...

My Weekly Steps Via Fitbit May 20 - May 26

Image
I'm starting to restart my stepping discipline after a few months of just lolligagging about. Here are my steps for the period of May 20 -May 26: As you can see, I just barely missed a full week of hitting my step goal of 12.5K steps a day. In total I had nine straight days of hitting my step goal, which I hadn't done in a while. My best day was last Monday when I took a walk through Roosevelt Island. I look forward to continue on building on my steps to get back to where I was last year at this time. Until Then Keep Stepping #SiscoVanilla #SiscoVanillaIsStepping #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

When Life Gives You Lemons, Get to Stepping May 25, 2019

Image
While walking to the ferry I realized that I left something home and turned back. That detour caused me to miss the ferry by a minutes. So I walked along the water to kill the 30 minutes until the next boat. Almost 2.5 miles in 50 minutes. Not a bad pace at all. Walk Routine For May 24, 2019

Image
In an effort to get active again, I'm going to try and get out and hit the pavement like I used to. I found that working days was easier for me to get my steps in than working nights. So either during days off or before my shifts (and even after) I'm going to try and get at least a couple of miles in. As you see here I did an early afternoon walk for a little more than 3.5 miles and a pre-work walk of 2.1 miles. Have to maximize this nice weather. Until Then Keep Stepping #SiscoVanilla  #SiscoVanillaIsStepping #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

Words from Edward Payson Weston

Just came across these words by Edward Payson Weston in the book Walk of Ages. He uttered these words over 110 years ago in 1909 and they still ring true today. Until Then, Keep Stepping, #SiscoVanilla #SiscoVanillaIsStepping #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

Walking Roosevelt Island May 20, 2019

One of my best stepping days in a long time. Enjoyed walking to and from the Ferry Station and walking the entire circumference of Roosevelt Island. Look forward to the next adventure. Until Then Keep Stepping, #SiscoVanilla  #SiscoVanillaIsStepping #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

Taking a Look at My Step Numbers January 26, 2019

Image
I don't particularly post my daily steps anymore but I feel compelled to do so today. It's been six weeks (December 12th to be exact) since I've had a 20K or more step day. The adjustment of working majority day shifts to working exclusively at night has been harder that I thought it would be. I'm finding it harder to get those steps in that I was used to getting while working at BN.  One way that I'm looking to start building up my steps on work nights is to take a walk after work before going home. Now that's easier said that done especially on a Tuesday or Wednesday when I get in at 4pm and if I'm busy enough, I'll be on my feet for 12 full hours. I mean who wants to get a few miles in after a 12 hours shift. Well, I guess I do if I want to get back to putting up those 100K step weeks. Luckily for me I've been able to maintain my weight where it's been for months instead of gaining due to lack of steps. No one said it was going to...

My First Week Using CharityMiles November 15, 2018

Image
I just finished my first week using the Charity Miles app that I downloaded and posted about on my post entitled Charity Miles App November 8, 2018 and I wanted to let you know what I think of it so far. Before I go into the mileage, I wanted to give a quick description of the app. After you download the app, open an account and choose a charity to raise funds with your miles accrued by biking or walking, you set your workout and hit the road (or the treadmill/exercise bike.) A number of articles that I've read specify that by using the CharityMiles app , you'll earn 10 cents a mile for biking and 25 cents a mile for walking and running. The money comes from corporate sponsors that back the apps fundraising efforts. The first charity I chose to back is the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (MS Society.) Let's take a look at my progress so far. As you can see from the image, I've walked 28 miles in 21 sessions over a seven day period. Now that is not to say that...

Charity Miles App November 8, 2018

Image
I posted an article across a number of my Social Media platforms yesterday entitled 50 Ways to Walk More from the Blog at MyFitnessPal . One of my friends Migdalia reached out to me on LinkedIn to tell me about an app called Charity Miles. The way the app works is that after you download the app, open an account and pick the charity of your choice, you highlight a workout and apply the workout to raise funds for the charity. The website for Charity Miles states that the money that is raised through the app comes from Corporate sponsor agreements. Here is a short list of the sponsors that work with the Charity Miles app: Johnson & Johnson Sunniva Super Coffee Blueprint for Athletes Brooks Running Del Monte Fresh Varidesk JackRabbit Thrive Market You can choose from Walking, Running and Biking both indoors and outdoors. For someone like me who is always on the move and wants to do more to help others in terms of raising funds for charities, this app seems like a ...

Steps for Oct 15 to Oct 21 via Fitbit App November 2, 2018

Image
Stepping, posting and just trying to live life are getting harder these days with the holidays on the horizon. Between the cafe and the bar, shit has been hectic and busy. At least I've been able to keep up with the walking at a consistent clip. Actually, this is the first time in a long time that I hit my step goal for the entire week. Check that out, 140,592 steps. Why? That was in the middle of a nine day stretch without being off. That's the way the schedule plays out sometimes. Whatcha gonna do, right? Here are the steps: October 15: 16,310 October 16: 18,927 October 17: 21,505 October 18: 23,284 October 19: 20,265 October 20: 19,156 October 21: 21,145 The week after this one was also full of steps though not to the degree of 140K steps. I actually had two days off that week. 🤪🤪 Anyways, have a great day folks. Until Then Keep Stepping, #SiscoVanilla  #SiscoVanillaIsStepping  #SiscoVanillaHitsTheBricks

Step Results from Oct 8 to Oct 14 from the FitBit App October 20, 2018

Image
Here are my steps for October 8 to October 14 via the Fitbit app. As you can see every metric (except for average restful sleep) went up from the week before. This was a very active week, including the Breast Cancer walk on Sunday the 14th. Here's the breakdown of my steps: October 8: 24,499 steps October 9: 15,528 steps October 10: 22,420 steps October 11: 19,341 steps October 12: 18,445 steps October 13: 10,717 steps October 14: 21,644 steps For the first time in a while I was able to break the 100K plateau for a Workweek Hustle. I actually placed first in four of the Hustles that I participated in. This upcoming week is also looking like a plentiful step week. With holiday retail around the corner, the step opportunities are sure to be many. Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll be at work, grinding away as usual. Step Results from Oct 1 to Oct 7 from the FitBit App October 13, 2018

Image
Here are my steps for the period of October 1 - October 7 on the Fitbit app. As you can see by the metrics, the numbers for this walking period are severely lower than the week before. Why? I was on a staycation. I was spending time laid out watching TV and napping. Just trying to recharge my depleted batteries. The 7th (which was my best day) was my first day back at work. The steps for the next upcoming week will be more like the norm. Anyhoo, here's the daily breakdown for the steps: October 1: 11,425 steps October 2: 16,094 steps October 3: 5,369 steps October 4: 5,868 steps October 5: 9,795 steps October 6, 7,421 steps October 7: 21,244 steps Back to regular steppage next week.
